Ranked, not
just listed.
I take recommendations seriously, so these are actual rankings. Number one means number one. TV, film, and anime each get their own board, and every slot has to earn a sentence about why it is there.
Film.
Rewatches that keep paying out something new.
-
The Matrix 1999
This film literally blew my mind. I wanted to be the One and break out of the Matrix for the longest time. I think I still do.
-
Inception 2010
I've always been intrigued by dreams. Where do we go? Everything is there. This story gets into that, and the score is really great.
-
Interstellar 2014
I love space, missions, a great soundtrack, and Anne Hathaway.
-
Avatar 2009
I love both Avatars: the Airbender and the film series James Cameron created. I go back to these a lot, and I can't wait to see how this story finishes. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
-
X-Men 2000 onward
Yes, I love all of them, even the ones people consider bad. Since I was a kid I've wanted to be a mutant. Who would I be? Kitty Pryde or Jean Grey, and I love that she's having a comeback.
-
The Incredibles 2004
It's so hard to pick between Pixar movies, but this one takes the cake. I never get tired of it, and I imagine how cool it would be if this was my family. And Inside Out: what a great way to explain emotions.
Anime.
The ones I will defend in any ranking argument.
-
My Hero Academia 2016
It's stupid how much I love this series. I'm a sucker for an underdog superhero story, I guess.
-
Fullmetal Alchemist 2009
A little bit of everything I love: magic, science, multiple universes, strong beliefs, superhuman powers. Just a great story, beginning to end.
-
Your Lie in April 2014
I always thought I only liked action-packed anime until I saw this one. Also, the music here is just amazing.
-
Solo Leveling 2024
Speaking of action, this is probably the greatest one of them all. I hope they finish it soon.
-
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End 2023
One of my most recent watches, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are some real good life lessons here.
-
Dr. Stone 2019
Now for a completely different kind of hero. Great story, great animation, and he naturally teaches you science along the way. Seasons one through three are the run I vouch for.
TV.
Series I finish, then make everyone around me start.
